AI Logos: Cool Picture ≠ Usable Logo

Updated: Apr 11

If you're reading this article there's a chance you're bringing an AI generated logo to the table. AI logos are very cool pictures but they do not equal a usable logo. AI is awesome for ideas. It's fast, it can be creative, and it can get you 80% of the way to a direction you like.

Cleanest Analogy I can provide as of April 2026:

AI Image is like a PHOTOGRAPH of a house. VECTOR LOGO is like the real life actual house.

AI image is like a photograph of house. Yes-Its a nice house! You can see the siding, the windows and the landscaping but you can't reach into that photo and take out the windows, you can't touch the siding, you can't, get your drill out and move a screw or two. Because at the end of the day its just a photo. A vector logo is like standing in front of the actual house. You can reach out and touch it. We can pull out every window and screw. If we wanted we could take apart that house, 2x4 by 2x4 and nail by nail. That's the difference between a vector logo and an AI "logo".

You need a real life human to build a house and you'll need a real life human to finalize your logo.(Deep dive on vector - HERE)

Redrawing/Rebuilding AI Logos

When we are re-drawing, we aren't just clicking a button. We're manually rebuilding shapes, simplifying details, and making sure it will actually work in the real world. Think of how many items your logo will end up on, such as business cards, trucks, website, mailers, and billboards. The logo needs to operate and be legible on everything. AI isn't thinking about uses when it spits out a logo.

Adams Performance (March's Project spotlight) used AI to create a concept. Epicenter redrew it & simplified it so that it can be used on all their elements moving forward.

On the left is an AI logo. On the right is Epicenter Graphics redrawn efforts. The redraw is cleaner and more legible.

Some logos are quite easy to rebuild but do need some minor tweaking. On the Left we have an AI logo. Notice how the font looks slightly distorted and the "L&M'S" isn't centered? Would you want those weird quirks representing your brand?

AI Image on the left- Redraw and relife graphic on the right.

Some AI generated logos are overly complex. Such as the example below on the left. The badge shape & "Creative Custom Construction" would be a fairly quick redraw and easy to bring to life. However the man holding the hammer and wrench would be hours upon hours for a talented graphic artist. Every shape has to be retraced, color added, then the shading and texture added and even then it would never be a perfect dead on match.

An overly complex AI logo compared to a simplified AI logo that can be redrawn as vector
Left- Overly Complex AI Logo. Right- Simplified logo

There are some instances, like above, where simplifying it is the move. Though the logo to the right is still eye catching it can be redrawn in a fraction of the time needed to redraw the one on the left. It also can translate easier to all marketing materials - not just your computer screen.
